Reinvesting Castellum dividend (2)

I was hoping that Castellum was going to be a long time dividend grower when I bought it but alas it didn't last very long until they cut the dividend completly. Hopefully they will get their finances in order over the next year and they can resume their dividends in 2024.

One might argue why I reinvest the dividend when they have cut it, but sooner or later they will start to pay out again I believe. Good things come to those who wait. I hope.

Dividend income December 2022

Another year has passed and this one wasn't so good for my portfolio. I think also this time is the first time that my overall wealth has actually declined in a year. That might be seen as a positive thing as my portfolio has now gotten so big that my salary doesn't have the same impact as it used to.

Luckily for me the year wasn't as bad as some of the indexes had. My portfolio was down -10.5% which is a lot better than for example OMX was. I think the biggest contributing factor to this was my USD positions acted as a hedge.

Dividend wise it was a record year however. I broke a lot of different records: single biggest dividend received, highest payout in a month, most number of dividends received in a month. I broke the dividend monthly record in eleven of the twelve months, only November I wasn't able to beat from last year. And I finally managed to beat the monthly record from 2019, twice.

I had a goal of reaching 65k dividend received this year and I beat that by a mile. I'm not sure what made get so far above my goal. Partly I think it's the strong USD. Also I bought quite a lot of big positions in high yielding stocks, my goal was to get 12k from new buys but seeing as for example Veteranpoolen alone stood for 3k that is a large part of the equation.

For next year I am a bit worried about dividend cuts from companies. We have already seen it in Sweden in a few real estate companies, for example Castellum. That alone is quite a big hit to my dividends. In my compilation of future dividends for 2023 I get to about 87k, and that is without 6% dividend growth I am usually counting with. With new buys I think I will make it to above 100k in dividends earned in 2023, but with a recession looming around the corner I'm not 100% confident. Even though I've seen cuts I have also seen some nice suprises already for January, for example VW is paying out 19 EUR per share which will be around 4k for me before taxes.

I haven't bought any new company for the last three months, I have been following one company for but it won't go to the levels I want to buy it at, so I might just pull the trigger anyway soon. I'd hope for the USD to come down below 10 as well but it's actually gone the other way this week so I'm not sure for how long I can stay away from US companies. I might start bulking up on some of my existing Swedish stock instead if that is the case.

I received a total of SEK 5,372.59 in dividends in December. An increase of 80% compared to last year!

For the full year I received 177 dividends totalling SEK 83,723.58 an increase of 50.9% compared to 2021.

Reinvesting Lundin Mining dividend (1)

First time reinvesting Lundin Mining dividend. I was a bit suprised that the withholding tax was 25%, I believed it would be 15% like with regular Canadian stocks. Maybe it would be better to own the stock listed on Toronto stock exchange but then I get the fx exposure. I probably can't be bothered to swap it.

Reinvesting SBB dividend (9)

It's quite interesting to see how the number of stocks I can reinvest in SBB fluctuates. From twelve a few months ago down to seven this month. The price has gone up a lot from the lows, in hindsight it would've been a good idea to invest at 10 SEK but always easy to backtrade.

Dividend income November 2022

November saw rising markets again, escpecially after the last CPI numbers. The FED will start to slow down on hiking rates in December most likely. What next year brings is a bit of an unknown. Inflation will probably come down more but by then the rising rates should come into play and will impact the economy. We are already seeing several companies in Sweden who have decided to pause their dividends, one of them being Castellum. It's a bit annoying that I just bought it one or two months ago to see the dividend be halted, and they were so close to becomming Sweden's first dividend aristocrat. I will still hold on to my shares as I believe they will start to pay dividends again once things are looking better again for them.

I've not bought any new company in a while, mostly because the one I'm watching the most is not coming down to price levels that I want to buy at. I'm not sure how much longer I will wait before I just buy it at a higher price. USD has also come down quite a bit last two months so once we start to see it below 10 SEK I will probably start to buy US companies again.

Dividend-wise it has not been another record month. However last year saw a couple of companies who hade paused their dividend paying them in November, of which Avanza was the biggest contributing factor. Without Avanza's dividend it would probably have been another record this month.

I received a total of SEK 5,514.59 in dividends in November. A decline of -24.9% compared to last year.
