Dividend income April 2023

April was a bit more calm than March was. Central banks keep hiking rates and inflation is starting to come down. Maybe we are soon reaching the point where Central banks will pause hiking, at least it feels like the Fed has one or two more hikes in them left. Riksbanken still has a far way to go but I think the house loans are too much of a problem so they can't hike too far. But I think inflation in Sweden will also start to come down quite a bit over the next months.

Another record month for me for the month of April, but this time it was very close. Avanza lowering their dividend hurt quite a bit. Next month is looking to be the best one ever for me. My portfolio increased marginally, but positive performance is always good. Biggest draw down was Avanza that fell on their report.

I received a total of SEK 16,540.22 in dividends in April. An increase of 2.9% compared to last year.

Reinvesting Kindred dividend (6)

Kindred stock rose a lot after their report, they are looking at strategic opportunities they said. Of course people start to speculate that they will be bought by another company sending the stock higher. One can only hope that happens. I'm not sure where I would reinvest my money after such a buyout, maybe increase my position in Evolution or shift it over to Betsson.

New buy Opter

I have doubled my position in Opter by buying 1000 more shares. I think they seem to be on the right track, and my timing was good. I got in before their quarterly report which was really good. I still think they will continue to grow steadily so I might actually continue to build a larger position. The liquidity in the stock is really low however so it's not that easy to get in on the price levels I might want to. In the long run I think this will be a really good stock if they continue like they have so far.

If they continue growing the rest of the year like they did this quarter we could see another large increase of their current dividend next year. They said in their report that they hadn't seen any real slowdown among their clients so maybe the transport sector isn't affected yet by any looming recession.

Exercising TUI rights

I decided to exercise the rights I received in TUI, for each right you could buy 8 new stock for EUR 5.5 each. While TUI has been one of my worst investments ever I still think they can turn around and start to pay out dividends again in the future. I know that a common mantra is that you should buy more of your winners and sell your losers however.

With the proceeds from the rights they are going to pay off a part of all the large debt they had to put on during the pandemic. I think that this will give them some room to start a comeback over the next years. I always seem to manage to invest too early in turnaround cases. This happened for me in VW and Danske Bank as well, I was down on those investments the first couple of years. If I ever manage to turn this investment positive is a tough question as I am down close to 50%. Over a 10 year period I believe I will be though.

Reinvesting Telia dividend (8)

Telia has started with quarterly dividends from now which I think is great. It helps with months that have a low dividend payout for me, August and February.

Reinvesting Lundin Mining dividend (2)

I'm thinking about moving my Lundin Mining position to my second portfolio so I don't have to bother with the taxes. I am not 100% sure I actually get all of the 25% tax back as it is now. Down side is I'd have to pay commission twice to sell and buy the shares to move them.

Reinvesting Avanza dividend (5)

I bought another 20 shares and I might buy another one just to get my holdings to an even number. Avanza lowered their dividend compared to last year, but hopefully they can start to increase it again from next year. Avanza has been one of my best holdings over time, much thanks to the pandemic. Higher rates should benefit Avanza. I like that they have started to pay back the tax from dividends each year now for prior year. One thing I wish they would do is to enable UK stocks to be traded on the platform, in fact they should enable all major stock markets to be tradeable.

Reinvesting SCA dividend (3)

I am thinking of buying more stocks in SCA to bring my holding more in line with other holdings, like I did with Handelsbanken. Too bad I didn't do it directly after they did the spinoff with Essity, the price has more than doubled since then. Their yield isn't that great however, but they keep growing it nicely every year.

Reinvesting Skanska dividend (3)

Skanska has steadily gone down in price since I bought it. Maybe it will start to change when rates go lower again, but until then a recession would probably make the price go even lower. I thought they'd get a boost from the infrastructure package in US but that seems not to have happened. Maybe it takes longer for that money to find it's way down that expected.

Reinvesting SBB dividend (13)

Starting to lose track on how many times I reinvested in SBB. It's been another volatile month for the stock, and it's more shorted than ever. I feel like there could be trouble in the future and that the company might run into difficulties and will need to cut it's dividend or take in money. I doubt we will see lower rates in Sweden for a while and it the short term they will go higher. From next month they will pay out 0.12 in dividend, for how long we will see.

Reinvesting Holmen dividend (4)

I looked at what price I reinvested Holmen last year and it was a big change down. They did pay out a nice bonus amount this year, hopefully they can keep that up. Also I actually bought two extra stocks, just to get a nice even number of the stocks owned.
