Dividend income February 2024

It's been a mixed February for me. On the one side I've had a really great month with great returns and overall good reports. On the other side there have been a lot of lowered and cancelled dividends for me, I am beginning to fear that reaching 125k this year won't be possible.

The report everyone was looking at this season was Nvidia, and they did not disappoint. It's now become such a big part of my portfolio that it almost by itself drives returns each day. Some of my smaller companies also had good reports, like Opter for example. There were some nice dividend increases and bonus dividends, i.e. Handelsbanken pays out SEK 13 this year. But unfortunately there have been some big downers as well, especially in the two companies I have increased in the last half year: Boliden and Yara. Yara cut it's dividend by 90% and Boliden also slashed theirs. I was expecting Yara to lower theirs but not by this much. I don't think that I will reach 125k even with all new buys this year. On the brighter side my portfolio is at an ATH.

Going to reach SEK 400k accumulated life time dividends in March! A nice mile stone, hopefully the next 100k will go faster.

I received a total of SEK 2,278.05 in dividends in February. An increase of 26.7% compared to last year.

Reinvested dividends effect on yearly dividend: SEK 91.29

Dividend income January 2024

Magnificent seven keep rising, it's been such a big tech rally in January this year. Meta went crazy after their report and Nvidia keeps on rising. It feels like it has to end sometime soon, it can't go on like this forever. When the music stops my portfolio will take a big hit probably, but I will stick to my buy and hold for now.

There have been some dividend surprises and disappointments so far this reporting season. Avanza increased their dividend quite substantially and will be the biggest dividend I've ever received. There have been some stale dividends, but overall it's been nice increases so far. I don't think I have had any cuts yet, if you don't count bonus dividends. However I'm starting to be a bit worried for my goal of 125k this year, I am nowhere near that amount in my preview for the year, hopefully with new buys I will be able to get there.

No new record this year due to the Volkswagen dividend last year, I doubt I will see those levels for a few years. But compared to the year before that it's a very nice increase.

I received a total of SEK 2,729.75 in dividends in January. A decrease of -59.2% compared to last year.

Dividend income December 2023

The year 2023 ended with a big rally in stocks. This has been one of my better years, my portfolio was up 19.10% this year and is now at a new ATH. I am a bit worried for 2024, recession should be looming around the corner. I am also a bit worried that such a large portion of my profits come from Nvidia. I will of course keep my holdings but I see they won't have such a stellar year next year, but who knows, maybe it will be another banger.

It has also been another record year for my dividends. At the beginning of last year I predicted that I would receive 100k in dividends. I managed to beat that and got roughly 107k. I beat the monthly records in ten out of twelve months and also beat the overall monthly record from last year. I had some lucky bonus dividends that will make it hard to beat the January record for a while. But with USD down to around SEK 10 I might be able to start buying US stocks again soon. Then I can start to boost some of the less dividend heavy months like January, February, July and August.

For next year my dividend goal will be to receive 125k in dividends. It's quite a high goal again, but with 6% dividend growth and 12k from new buys I believe it to be possible. There are some bonus dividends that will draw down the overall next year, like Volkswagen, Thomson Reuters and Yara. But hopefully there will be a few surprises in store for next year as well. One I have already seen, a small one but still, and that is that Disney will start to pay out dividend again, so that will give me a small boost to January and August. I also think companies like Firefly that have had such an amazing year will see a large increase in dividend growth next year, at least I hope so.

I received a total of SEK 4,433.83 in dividends in December. A decrease of 17.5% compared to last year, mostly due to Yara paying out a bonus dividend in December last year.

For the full year I received 182 dividends totalling SEK 107,253.72 an increase of 28.1% compared to 2022.

Reinvested dividends effect on yearly dividend: SEK 14.28 and for the whole of 2023 the reinvested dividend yearly effect is SEK 3,359.87. That is more than I received in dividends for the whole year when I started!

Dividend income November 2023

Big rally in November for markets. Inflation is coming down and central banks are pausing their rate hikes. It feels like the market might have gotten a bit ahead of itself and we could see a downturn soon. It was a good month for my portfolio, only downside was SEK rallied hard in November, which meant I lost a lot of money on my US stocks. It was a good hedge in the downturn last year but now it acts the other way around, limiting my gains. I think it might be as well since it makes my portfolio less volatile.

On the dividend side things are not looking as good. This was the first month this year that I didn't break the monthly dividend record, that record still belongs to November 2021, which was inflated by a lot of paused dividends being paid out then. December is sadly not looking great either in dividend increase. Another downside to the stronger SEK is that my dividend amounts go down.

I received a total of SEK 4,764.65 in dividends in November. A decrease of -13.6% compared to last year. Not good at all. Time to look at November dividend payouts.

Dividend income October 2023

October was another downward month for me, higher for longer seemed to have been the general modus operandi. Also the Israel - Hamas conflict did not help the markets. I do not believe the conflict will escalate into a greater war in the region, I do not believe it would lead to a good outcome for anyone involved.

While the portfolio keeps under performing, dividends keep rolling in and setting new records. But unfortunately all good things must come to an end and it is looking like November and December will not reach up to the same amount I saw last year. Some part is shift in dividend and some cancelled dividends. Also Yara that had an extra dividend last year will not pay out a bonus dividend this December.

Speaking of Yara, I more than doubled my holdings this month. I have been looking to buy more Yara since early summer and now finally after their report the price came down to a point I felt ok with. I believe Yara will still profit from rising commodity prices in the long run and will continue to pay out very nice dividends in the comming years. It will probably take some time for them to get back to 2023 levels again but sooner or later I believe that will happen. When calculating the effect on yearly dividend from this buy I will use a lower dividend rate from 2021 of NOK 20. I think we will see a dividend from NOK 20-30 next year from Yara, if commodity prices stay where they are.

I received a total of SEK 6,036.97 in dividends in October. A modest increase of 1.45% compared to last year. I really need to start working on Febuary, August and November dividends!

Dividend income September 2023

The tides have turned from earlier this year where the market was climbing higher each month. September was a significant draw down for me. Not only did stocks go down but in late September the SEK has rallied a lot. Even if it affects my portfolio negatively I want to se USDSEK lower so that I can finally start buying new US stocks again.

Rates have risen in September as CB's are all signaling higher for longer and some are still going to hike rates. Inflation seems to be coming down a bit however so that might change things.

In terms of dividends it's a more positive note than the markets as I beat the record from previous September.

I received a total of SEK 7,038.09 in dividends in September. An increase of 11.9% compared to last year.
